Congressman Kiko Barzaga has been removed from the Philippine Army’s Reserve Force after being found to have committed “grave offenses” that violated military regulations.

Philippine Army spokesperson Colonel Louie Dema-ala confirmed on Wednesday, October 22, that Barzaga has been delisted from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). This action permanently bars the lawmaker from wearing the military uniform or joining any regular or reserve forces in the future.
Violations Related to Sedition Hints
The removal of Barzaga, who held the rank of Private, reportedly stemmed from social media posts on September 21. In these posts, the lawmaker, who has been publicly calling for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s resignation, donned a military uniform and appeared to hint at sedition backed by the military.
The Army was firm in its decision to uphold discipline and professionalism.
“We do not condone violations of military regulations, regardless of status or position, as part of our duty to preserve the professionalism and credibility of the organization,” Dema-ala said in a statement.
He clarified, however, that the administrative action against Barzaga “does not reflect” on his personal character as a lawmaker. “While we regret the necessity of this action, the Philippine Army upholds its commitment to discipline, integrity, and accountability,” Dema-ala added.
Barzaga was only enlisted in the Reserve Force in January 2025 and previously served as a member of the National Capital Region Regional Defense Group Reserve Command.

Ethics Complaint
In addition to his delistment from the military, the lawmaker faces a separate ethics complaint filed by his former political party, the National Unity Party (NUP). The NUP cited misconduct, specifically pointing to violent or lewd content and ostentatious displays of wealth on his social media accounts.
