Kim Chiu has taken a painful legal step as she filed a qualified theft complaint against her sister, Lakambini Chiu, after uncovering what she described as “serious financial discrepancies” in one of their shared business ventures.
The actress’s management agency, Star Magic, confirmed on Tuesday, Dec. 2, that Kim, accompanied by her legal counsel and team, personally went to the Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma Hall at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office to submit the complaint.
Photos released by the agency on its official Facebook page show a visibly solemn Kim giving her sworn statement inside the DOJ building, marking a rare public glimpse into a deeply personal family conflict.
In a heartfelt statement sent to the press, Kim admitted that filing the case was one of the most painful and difficult decisions she has ever made.
“After careful consideration and months of internal review, I have made the difficult decision to file a legal case for qualified theft against my sister, Lakambini Chiu, in relation to serious financial discrepancies discovered within my business operations. This decision did not come easily. It is one of the most painful steps I have ever taken in my life,”
her statement read.
According to Kim, the extensive internal assessment carried out in recent months revealed issues that could no longer be ignored. She emphasized that moving forward with the complaint was necessary not only to protect her company but also to safeguard the livelihoods of the many people who depend on her business.
Her legal team has chosen not to reveal further details regarding the alleged discrepancies or the specific business involved, citing the sensitivity of the case and respect for the judicial process.
Speculation surrounding a rift between the Chiu sisters began earlier this year when fans noticed that Kim and Lakambini had unfollowed each other on Instagram, prompting rumors of a deepening conflict within the family. This came as a surprise to many longtime followers, especially considering how close the sisters had seemed in previous years.
In 2023, Lakambini experienced a serious health scare due to an undisclosed medical condition. At the time, she publicly thanked Kim for providing positivity, strength, and emotional support, saying that her sister played a major role in helping her overcome that difficult period.
The contrast between their once-solid bond and today’s legal battle has left many fans stunned and heartbroken.
As the case now enters official proceedings, supporters of the actress are hoping for clarity, justice, and—if possible—healing for the once inseparable Chiu sisters.
