MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has named former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez as the new chairperson of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed the appointment to reporters during a Malacañang briefing on Wednesday.
Gutierrez previously served as the Ombudsman during the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. She resigned from the post during the term of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III after the House of Representatives filed an impeachment complaint against her on charges related to corruption cases.
Prior to her new appointment, Gutierrez was also a member of the board of trustees of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS). Her appointment to the GSIS board had previously faced scrutiny regarding her qualifications.
