DUMAGUETE CITY – The Philippine Army in Negros Oriental has affirmed its commitment to uphold the Constitution, fully support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and resist any attempts to destabilize the government, according to an official statement on Wednesday.

Brigadier General Jason Jumawan, commander of the Army’s 302nd Infantry Brigade based in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, addressed reporters during a press conference, stressing that the Philippine Army will categorically refrain from participating in any unconstitutional activities aimed at undermining the government.

He recalled historical lessons, citing the 1987 coup d’état and the series of military revolts that followed, describing these events as chaotic and detrimental to the country’s progress.

“Those uprisings resulted in economic decline and instability,” Jumawan said. “Ultimately, nothing productive came from these actions, and many of the individuals involved suffered serious consequences, including the loss of their military careers.”<p><strong>ALLEGIANCE.</strong> Brig. Jumawan also expressed strong support for Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro’s recent statements regarding the importance of strengthening the military institution.

He emphasized that resorting to a military uprising is not a viable solution to the nation’s present challenges and warned that such actions could only worsen the situation.

He revealed that he has engaged in discussions with several retired military officers, some of whom have reportedly expressed interest in supporting calls for an uprising.

“I made it very clear to them that such efforts will fail,” Jumawan explained. “The military will not support these unconstitutional movements, and anyone attempting to pursue them will face inevitable consequences.”
