Feeling scared, Maki found a way to leave the room by telling a small lie—that he needed to use the restroom. He never returned to that audition. On the ride home, he cried quietly, overwhelmed by confusion and fear.
He reflected, “At that moment, I didn’t understand what had just happened to me. But I kept thinking about my dream. I wondered if I was ready for it, or if my dream was too big for who I was then.”
