Worse still, 96% of those projects were in Bicol, Escudero’s political turf. Out of 54 contracts awarded in Sorsogon, 36 fell within the 1st district long influenced by the Escudero family. Coincidence, or pattern?

But Escudero hit back hard. In a fiery statement, he denied everything:

“I vehemently deny the malicious allegations… This is nothing but a well-orchestrated demolition job. I have never once been charged with corruption in 27 years of public service, and I will not allow baseless lies to tarnish my record.”

He vowed to file counter-charges against Bernardo, dismissing the testimony as politically motivated fiction.
