Willy Adames is one of the top shortstops currently in the free-agent market. Adames had an incredible 2024 season, helping the Brewers reach the playoffs. The Brewers extended a qualifying offer for Adames, but he declined it and is looking for other options.
Adames is the top free-agent shortstop this offseason, and he has several other players behind him. Kevin Newman was the first shortstop to sign a one-year deal with the Angels, but Adames has a bigger market. With several teams behind the slugger, a surprise AL East team is predicted to be a top suitor.
It turns out that the Toronto Blue Jays have emerged as the favorite to sign Willy Adames. The Blue Jays are linked to several free-agent targets, including Juan Soto. However, their chances of signing Soto are far from high. Now, with Adames on the list, they could try to bolster their offense.

The Blue Jays can use a player like Adames, especially after his impressive numbers last season. Adames smashed 32 home runs for the Brew-Crew and recorded 112 RBIs. His defensive skills were a huge boost in Milwaukee.
According to MLB insider Mark Fiensand, the Adames may make the most sense for the Blue Jays. However, he might be shifted to third base since Bo Bichette is still on the team. The Blue Jays can prepare for the future and move Adames back as a shortstop in case Bichette departs.
Red Sox Are Among Other Teams Interested In Willy Adames
The Boston Red Sox are also linked to Willy Adames. The Blue Jays will have tough competition in pursuing Adames since he’s a top SS on the free-agent market. Apart from Adames, there are Ha-Seong Kim, Jose Iglesias, Brand Crawford, and Paul DeJong, to name a few.
It’s evident that most teams will opt for Adames first. Toronto will need to outbid the Red Sox. Several reports state that the Red Sox have a strong interest in Adames. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale believes the Red Sox could go behind Adames.
If the Blue Jays want to sign Adames, they must look for something beyond two years. A three-year deal could be ideal for the star slugger. Apart from Adames, the Red Sox are also eyeing Teoscar Hernandez.
