What happened to Steph Curry? Warriors star exits game vs Clippers with injury (Source: Imagn)
Steph Curry exited Sunday’s game against the Clippers with a left ankle injury saw him exit the game. He tweaked it for the second time, forcing him to exit the game. Curry limped off the floor and needed the staff’s help to get to the locker room. He twisted it in the third quarter, too. Here’s the video:
It seemed like a concerning issue, looking at how Curry left the floor. The Warriors were down 10 when he exited. Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy also joined the four-time NBA champ on his way out.
Steph Curry finished with 18 points on 6 of 11 shots, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range. It was his most efficient game of the three he’s played thus far. However, the Warriors lost 112-104. The outcome may have been different if Curry played. He was their best player before he exited the game with an injury.
Andrew Wiggins took those honors after a fighting 29-point effort on 11 of 15 shots.
Steve Kerr gives injury update on Steph Curry
Warriors coach Steve Kerr provided a crucial injury update for Steph Curry after Sunday’s game. Kerr told reporters that Curry was “okay,” describing his ankle sprain as “mild to moderate.” The 35-year-old is due to receive an MRI scan on his left ankle later.
It’s a tough blow for the Warriors, as Curry could miss a few games. However, the good thing is that it may not be a long-term injury if it’s a mild to moderate sprain, as described by Kerr.
The Warriors will hope Curry returns soon from this setback as their hopes of success rely on him heavily. They didn’t sign a bonafide All-Star who could carry the team in such a situation. However, they have some of the top-tier role players in the NBA, who they will turn to as Curry recovers.
Andrew Wiggins, Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga are the Dubs’ next three best options, with Steph Curry likely sidelined. De’Anthony Melton could replace Curry in the starting lineup at the point guard position.
When will Steph Curry return? Exploring possible timeline
Steph Curry may have suffered a Grade I or Grade II sprain. If that’s the case, he could miss a week or two with a Grade I or three to six weeks with a Grade II. The Warriors have a relatively easy schedule for the next week, but it gets tougher as the season progresses. Curry’s potential month-long or more absence could cost them a decent start to the year.
