The Edmonton Oilers fell just one game short of hoisting the Stanley Cup last season, and now fans have finally had the chance to see what happened inside their locker room.

Connor McDavid, the captain of the Edmonton Oilers, has gone viral after showing up in a clip included in Amazon’s new docuseries “Faceoff: Inside the NHL,” in which he’s visibly emotional and agitated.

The series, the first of its kind covering the NHL, gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at McDavid and other superstars. In McDavid’s case, he is shown delivering a passionate, expletive-filled rant to his teammates during the finals.

The viral clip was filmed during Game 2 of the series against the Florida Panthers, one that dropped Edmonton into a two-game deficit in the Stanley Cup Final.

McDavid isn’t typically known for fiery speeches, but this clip shows a different side of the superstar and caught fans’ attention on social media.

McDavid’s frustrations, as evident as they were, are reasonable given the circumstances. Although the rant didn’t have an immediate impact on the team’s performance (they lost another game, falling 0-3), it caused a spark as the Oilers bounced back to tie the series and force Game 7.

McDavid discussed the docuseries and that viral clip in particular, acknowledging that it was a spur-of-the-moment reaction.

“They shot it, they might as well use it,” McDavid said, via the Edmonton Journal. “There are lots of emotions there and I think fans will see that.

“You’re going to see hockey players, but you’re going to see the human side of it.

“You’re going to see joy on one side and you’re going to see a lot of heartbreak as well. Hopefully, it’s worth it, it’s not the easiest thing to let some media into some of those moments.”
