Tempers flared between the Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars on Saturday night, as captains Jamie Benn of the Stars and Adam Lowry of the Jets dropped the gloves in the third period.

Benn delivered a cross-check on Cole Perfetti, earning a penalty. Despite the referee’s arm already being raised, Lowry took exception to the hit and confronted Benn. After a brief exchange, the two captains shed their gloves and grabbed hold of each other, jostling for position.

The officials moved in quickly to intervene and prevent further escalation. Lowry was assessed a penalty for his role in initiating the fight.

Fans react to Captains’ Jamie Benn and Adam Lowry fight

Hockey fans erupted on social media following the fight between Jamie Benn and Adam Lowry during Saturday’s game between the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets.

The fight sparked a variety of reactions among fans.

One fan tweeted:

“They didn’t throw a lot, but every shot counted.”

Another fan wrote:

“Exactly why Lowry is my favorite captain in the NHL, he perfectly embodies what a captain should be. Always shows up in the playoffs and in big spots, always defends his teammates and shows them the right way to play the game. Utmost respect goes out to Lowry”

Here are some fan reactions:

“It felt like they were just going through the motions, not really going all out, or even close to it,” one fan wrote on X.

“Only thing better than watching somebody clock Benn is seeing the Stars down 4-0 when it happens!” Another fan wrote.

“Lowry is an underrated fighter. I’ve seen him hang in there with some of the tougher guys in the league. They need to find a plug to do this stuff tho. Don’t need Lowry getting a broken hand,” a user commented.

“Benn being a salty prick cause he was losing so he crosschecks one of the smallest guys on the team in the back, at least he dropped the gloves I suppose, dirty,” another user wrote.

Goals were scored by Nikolaj Ehlers, Rasmus Kupari, Alex Iafallo and Vladislav Namestnikov. Roope Hintz scored for the Stars.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 32 shots. Jake Oettinger stopped 11 shots out of 15, while backup goalie Casey DeSmith saved 10 shots in relief.
