Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is all set to become a free agent after the 2025 season. The Blue Jays will try to do their best to retain Vladdy in Toronto, and they are already making progress by giving him an extension. Toronto is well aware that almost every team will offer Vladdy a huge contract.

Losing out on Vladdy will be a hard hit on the team’s roster. Hence, they are looking for a long-term deal. The latest update is that the Blue Jays have made an offer to the star slugger. Toronto reportedly offered Vladimir Guerrero Jr. $340 million, but he rejected it.

The Blue Jays were also ready to pursue Juan Soto, but now their focus has turned to Guerrero. According to rumors, the Four-Time All-Star player wants around $500 million to remain on the team. Vladdy knows his value, and the Blue Jays will have no other option but to match his price.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s Contract Could Place Bo Bichette On Trade Block

The Blue Jays are in a tough situation since Bo Bichette will also hit the free-agent market in 2025. Toronto might be able to retain only one slugger, and their priority will be Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Toronto could also opt to trade Bichette before he hits the free-agent market. Trading Bichette could help the team extend Guerrero. However, they need to act soon before he enters free agency.

According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Blue Jays are set to retain Guerrero in a long-term deal. Rosenthal also mentioned the team might trade Bichette and add Alex Bregman to the lineup. Rosenthal says the franchise would buy Vladimir Guerrero Jr. out of his final year of arbitration.

It’s clear that Toronto will want to retain Guerrero, but Bichette’s extension hangs in a thread. The team would not want to miss out on Bichette in free agency. Instead, they would opt to trade him. Adding Alex Bregman is left to be seen since they have not made any significant trades this offseason.

The most active team this offseason is the New York Yankees. The Yanks have made multiple trade deals and are also looking at a reunion with All-Star slugger Anthony Rizzo.
