Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani and his wife Mamiko Tanaka are going viral after making a rare public appearance together.

Ohtani is a very reserved person and keeps a tight circle, though apparently not tight enough given the saga he’s been plunged into. However, most Americans were unaware he even had a partner until he announced his marriage via a social media post in March.

“To all my friends and fans throughout, I have an announcement to make: Not only have I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers but I also have began a new life with someone from my Native country of Japan who is very special to me and I wanted everyone to know I am now married,” he shared in an Instagram post. “I am excited for what is come and thank you for your support.”

 

The couple attended the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond Gala at the team’s stadium together on Wednesday night, and a video of them posing has since gone viral, garnering over 600,000 views.

Thursday night’s outing was a rare one for the two of them, who have hardly been spotted publicly since their marriage was announced.

In fact, it was only the first time since they were seen together since an appearance at Incheon Airport in Seoul, with the Dodgers having opened the MLB season against the San Diego Padres over there.

Mamiko is a former professional basketball player who played as a center at Waseeda University. She also played for the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women’s Japanese Basketball League in Kawasaki from 2019 to 2023.
