The painful scene happened during the match between the Blackhawks and Jets when the emergency lineup was changed due to injury (video)

The Chicago Blackhawks recently lost head coach Luke Richardson this week, as the Anders Sorensen era begins in the Windy City.

However, at 9:21 near the end of the 1st period against the Winnipeg Jets, Sorensen’s tenure may have started with a bit of chaos.

Veteran backstop Petr Mrazek would have to leave the ice, as Arvid Soderblom stepped into the net.

Mrazek has been healthy recently and has suffered multiple injuries in the past which included his head, and another undisclosed injury around the same time period.

Mrazek left the ice of his own accord but looked like he was struggling to get up after falling to the ice. The play would end between the Blackhawks and Jets and he’d gingerly skate off to the back.

This could be bad news for the Blackhawks who suffered groin injuries in October, and December 2022 after his arrival from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 30-year-old Mrázek was hurt during the second period of Friday night’s 4-3 overtime victory against the Detroit Red Wings. He finished with 15 saves on 18 shots.

“Early in the season and, the solid goalie that he is, we took the precaution,” Chicago head coach Luke Richardson said after the game. “I just talked to the trainers and the doctor, and I think he’ll have to take tonight to see how it is. [Saturday] we’ll make the call and see how he progresses.”

For now, all we can do is speculate about what injury Mrazek himself has suffered, and nothing has been confirmed.

For now, Arvid Soderblom remains in the net with 1:45 left in the 1st period, with the Blackhawks and Jets tied 1-1.
