Taylor Swift in Toronto: How much is the pop diva’s six concerts costing the city for extra security and transit?

Taylor Swift’s six concerts underway in Toronto are expected to incur significant costs for the city, primarily for extra security and transit measures. According to the Toronto Star, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) anticipates costs between $1 million to $1.2 million. However, the TTC expects increased ridership to offset these expenses.

The city has also heightened security due to a recent incident in Vienna where two individuals were arrested for allegedly planning an attack to “kill as many people as possible” outside Swift’s concert venue. Toronto’s costs for security and operations remain undisclosed for now for security reasons, but a report on the economic impact will be made public after the concerts.

Destination Toronto estimates the Eras Tour will generate $152 million in direct spending and $282 million in economic impact. The tour’s financial benefits, along with its international publicity for Toronto, are expected to outweigh the costs. A similar event in London, England, saw police spend approximately $1.53 million CAD for Swift’s eight shows at Wembley Stadium. The concerts are expected to bring joy to over 300,000 attendees.
