The 2024 season will be etched in the memory of Los Angeles Dodgers players, managers and fans as they capped off a dream season with a World Series victory, something that would not have been possible without a key man in the season, Shohei Ohtani.
While the Japanese player propelled the Dodgers to win the divisional pennant and then the National League and World Series titles, there is a special day in the season, September 19, 2024, against the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park
Ohtani started with a double in the first inning and followed with his 50th stolen base of the season when he took third base.
In the second inning, he added an RBI single and recorded another stolen base to reach 51 on the season. Ohtani added an RBI triple in the third before hitting a home run in the sixth, his 49th of the season.
In his next at-bat in the seventh, he hit another home run to reach the historic 50-50 milestone in style. However, he was not done yet. In his last at-bat in the ninth, Ohtani hit his third home run of the night to make it 51-51 on the season.
Ohtani out of this world
Joe Davis, the official radio play-by-play announcer for the Dodgers, shared his impressions with the Baseball Bar-B-Cast podcast, stating that it was one of the best days in Dodgers history.
“One of the amazing things about that day is that this would have been one of the best days ever, no matter what happens… in the void it’s one of the best games anyone’s ever played.”
Davos claimed that what Ohtani did that night cannot be done by any other player who considers himself human.
“I really don’t know if the guy is human. I think he was sent here by the baseball gods to break the game.”
Even Ohtani himself is still living in a dream, as he told journalist Bob Nightengale.
