The Detroit Red Wings have been hit with bad news, as they will be without Patrick Kane for an indeterminate amount of time.

Kane was recently placed on injured reserve retroactive to November 23rd, 2024. The move comes after Kane was given an injured status by the club, was and out with an upper-body injury.
It appears that at Kane’s age, retirement is now looming.
The Red Wings count on Kane to bring his skilled play to the ice every night and he has played 20 games this season, scoring 10 points( 3 G, 7 A).
This move, while undesirable, will open up a roster spot for defenseman William Lagesson from the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.
Kane’s production has waned, as he is now shooting at an all-time low 7.5% clip, following a half-season that looked like Showtime of old. He’s also been utilized less by Head Coach Derek Lalonde, with 17:21 TOI.
The Red Wings will suffer with Kane out, and a lack of scoring depth isn’t helping to boot. The team remains under .500 which gives us an idea that Lalonde could be on the outs with the Yzerplan according to speculation.
He’s also been among Detroit’s worst players at controlling possession at even strength, logging a 41.9 CF% that sits 15th out of the 20 Red Wings skaters to play at least 10 games this season.
The Wings gave Kane a nice deal during the offseason with a $4 Million AAV and $2.5 Million in performance bonuses.
. He’s already earned $1.5MM in bonuses by hitting the 10-game mark, with an additional $250K possible if he hits 60 games. The remaining $750K can only be unlocked if Detroit makes the playoffs,
Kane played 51 games for the Red Wings last season and was expected to be a reliable contributor wearing the winged wheel.
He scored 47 points( 20 G, 27 A) with a -5 and was reunited with former Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBrincat in Detroit.
