Ed Sheeran bought Sam Smith a 6 foot penis statue: ‘I had to get it craned into my house’

Smith told Kelly Clarkson on her daytime talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show that they received the NSFW present from the “Shape of You” hitmaker seemingly out of the blue. They admitted that they initially thought the penis-shaped gift was a “joke” until it took a whole crane to deliver the statue. 

“It’s actually wild,” Smith said. “I thought it was a joke.”

They added: “It’s a 6’2” marble penis. It’s two tons. I have to get it craned into my house.”

Clarkson asked what literally everyone was thinking – what was Sheeran thinking, how expensive was the gift and honestly where does one put a statue the height of some NFL players? 

“What’s going to happen?” Clarkson asked. 

“I want to turn it into a fountain, which I think will be hard to do,” Smith responded, prompting laughter from Clarkson and the audience. 

The “Unholy” singer explained that Sheeran has a history of giving “people concrete penises”, saying they’re “not the first” person to receive a memorable status. 

Clarkson also helped name Sam Smith’s phallic statue after the American Idol winner suggested it be called the Duke of Hastings, a reference to the Bridgerton character Simon Bassett (played by René-Jean Page).  

Sheeran told Radio 2 in September 2021 that he was having a “life-size” penis statue made for Sam Smith after the singer “saw one of them in [Sheeran’s] pub at home” and said they would “love one of them”. 

This is far from the first time that Ed Sheeran has given a celebrity an unusual or penis-shaped statue. 

Elton John revealed in August 2021 that he and Sheeran often “play tricks on each other”, which includes sending the gay icon a “giant marble penis” for his birthday. 

“I don’t know if that’s because I’ve always been a prick or what,” John quipped. “It’s really big, it’s beautifully made, but it’s solid marble.”

The “Tiny Dancer” singer explained that the statue, which he described as a “beautifully made penis”, is hidden away in an area of his house where his children can’t catch a glimpse of it. 

Sheeran has also discussed how he routinely pranks Friends star Courtney Cox by ordering her a leather jump mask every time he visits her home. He believed the actor has “maybe 12” masks in total, and he admitted to hiding them in “people’s bedrooms”.
