Ryne Sandberg has some unfortunate news to share this week.
In a post on Instagram, the Chicago Cubs legend revealed that his cancer has returned and spread to other parts of his body.
The Chicago Cubs legend wrote in part, “Unfortunately, we recently learned the cancer has relapsed, and it has spread to other organs,” he wrote Tuesday.
“This means that I’m back to more intensive treatment. We will continue to be positive, strong, and fight to beat this. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for me and my family.”
Ryan Sandberg was greeted with a number of well-wishes from fans as well as former players.
Former Cubs great and Baseball Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins commented, “Praying for you, Ryno! 🙏🏾”
“I’m praying for God’s healing blood 🩸 and protection over you @rynesandberg23 🙏🏾🙏🏾 Love you brother ❤️,” wrote former Mets great Daryl Strawberry.
Former MLB center fielder Dexter Fowler said: “Godspeed brother!! We love you and are praying for you. Strong, stay strong!💪🏾”
Even the Baseball Hall of Fame account chimed in, “Your Hall of Fame family is always with you, Ryno.”
Over the summer of 2024, the Chicago Cubs forever immortalized Sandberg with a statue depicting him crouched and waiting for a grounder. His statue stands next to fellow Hall of Famers Ferguson Jenkins, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, and Ernie Banks.
Ryne Sandberg Was A Legend During Hi Playing Days
Ryne Sandberg made his big league debut with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1981 and appeared in 13 games before he was traded to the Cubs in January 1982.

Ryne Sandberg ended his career hitting .285 with 282 homers, 1,061 RBIs, and 344 steals in 16 seasons in the majors.
He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.
