Prince Harry Speaks Out on the Persistent Meghan Markle Divorce Rumors

Prince Harry makes a point to ignore tabloid reports about his relationship with Meghan Markle. But one thing he laughs off is the wild stories about them, including the persistent divorce rumors.

During his talk at The New York Times’ 2024 DealBook Summit, Harry was asked about his and Meghan’s choice to do events separately and the type of commentary it fuels about their relationship.

Columnist and Dealbook founder Andrew Ross Sorkin asked Harry, “Is that normal for you? The second there’s an article—she’s in California, you’re in New York—they say, ‘Well, what is happening with these two, right?’ Is that a good thing for you, in a way, that there‘s so much interest in you?”

Harry responded, per People, “No, that’s definitely not a good thing. Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?” The prince laughed.

“It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it,” he added. “The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”

In October, a friend of the couple spoke to People about why Harry and Meghan are doing more events on their own. The insider explained, “It’s clear that a twin-track approach is evolving. An entrepreneurial and enterprise focus is going to be more the Duchess’s priority and the Duke will continue to champion his not-for-profit patronages. But there will be joint efforts around those cause-driven areas of work.”

The friend also pointed out that Harry and Meghan have two children, Archie, 5, and Lili, 3. Their career evolution is “as much a reflection on parenting priorities, in that one of them stays behind with the children,” the source said.
