Nathaniel Lowe makes feelings known after Rangers trade him to Nationals for Robert Garica, shares thoughts on future with Washington – Source: Imagn
After four seasons with the Texas Rangers, first baseman Nathaniel Lowe is on the move. Lowe was traded to the Washington Nationals in exchange for left-handed reliever Robert Garcia on Sunday. The trade comes in the wake of the Rangers acquiring corner infielder Jake Burger from Miami for three minor leaguers two weeks ago.
Lowe shared his feelings following the trade.
“I think the way things were going overall through the winter, it felt like my role was either going to be reinforced or replaced,” Lowe said via Baseball on Fanatics. “Then, you know, when you see the GM’s phone pop up in the middle of winter, that’s kind of usually how that goes.
“So, you know, second time getting traded in the winter. I’m excited for a new opportunity. And when he said I was going to Washington, I was like, ‘All right, let’s go for it.'”
Nathaniel Lowe excited to be veteran presence in Nationals clubhouse
Nathaniel Lowe, who hit .265 with 16 homers and 69 RBIs in 2024 for the Rangers, is heading from a 2023 World Series-winning team to a club that has yet to record a winning season since winning the World Series in 2019.
The Nationals are not expected to be competitive in 2025 and Lowe will have a young roster to look forward to. Talking about the change in scenery, the 29-year-old said:
“It’s kind of odd, you know, but looking at all the ’97s, ’98s, and 2000s on the roster is a new experience,” Lowe said. “Now, being a guy who can be a voice of reason in the clubhouse and can definitely help this younger core continue to develop is going to be a new challenge, and it’s going to be something exciting.”
Lowe recounted his experience from the first time he joined the Rangers in 2021 and expects to do something similar with the Nats.
“I was part of a Texas team my first year,” Lowe added. “We were terrible. We didn’t have the big names. We had good players—not a good major league team by the record—but to see it grow into what it became was so special. This feels like another opportunity to do something like that.”
Lowe is expected to be the Nationals’ everyday first baseman and bat in the middle of the lineup.
