Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani want to make this dynasty” – Dodgers pitcher claims MVPs in team have huge aspirations in LA (Image source – Getty)
The Los Angeles Dodgers won a second World Series title in four years and eighth overall by beating the New York Yankees in the Fall Classic in five games in October.
Despite the success of the 2024 season, the NL West team has started to acquire the missing pieces of their roster, with the signing of two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell being the major scoop of the offseason so far.
The Dodgers’ decision to add a reliable arm in the rotation comes after an injury-riddled season for several of their starters in 2024. One pitcher who chipped in to help manager Dave Roberts amid the injuries was rookie hurler Landon Knack.
In a recent podcast episode of “Dodgers Nation” released on Sunday, the rookie discussed the mindset of the two MVPs, Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani, while reflecting on the Dodgers’ offseason decisions.
Knack said on the Dodgers strengthening to defend the World Series crown in 2025 (24:10):
“You can tell just from everything that we’re doing the way we’re going about it and kind of the mindset. Obviously, you’re seeing from Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani and all of them is they want to make this dynasty. Baseball hasn’t had a real dynasty in a long time where people have really been able to run off championships and I think we have a real opportunity to be able to do that.”
He continued:
“It’s kind of like really the hungriness of, of all of them that they just want to get out there and they just want to win them. And so, uh, you can you can see everything we’re doing. We’re putting in a good spot to be able to do that and so, I’m excited to kind of see what we do, as we’re moving into this next season.”
The 2024 World Series runners-up, the New York Yankees are the last team to win back-to-back World Series titles when they won three on the bounce between 1998-2000 under Derek Jeter’s leadership.
Dodgers starter Landon Knacks capped off rookie season with World Series title
Landon Knack was added to the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster at the start of the 2024 season but didn’t feature in the team’s MLB World Tour games in Seoul.
He was optioned back to Oklahoma City in the minors but was recalled in April and made his MLB debut against the Washington Nationals the same month. He posted a 3.65 ERA in 12 starts with 69 strikeouts in the regular season.
He was added to the Dodgers’ postseason roster but had a mixed run in October. While he pitched a scoreless inning in relief against the San Diego Padres in Game 4 of the NLDS, Knack imploded for five runs against the New York Mets in Game 2 of the championship series.
He also featured against the Yankees in Game 4 of the Fall Classic. With the arrival of Blake Snell in LA, it’s hard to see Knack making the Opening Day roster next season.
