The Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is getting roasted on social media for his post-game comments after a horrible team effort against the Vancouver Canucks last night.

Yesterday, the Maple Leafs hosted the Vancouver Canucks at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, and the night didn’t end well for the Leafs.
Following an underwhelming performance from the whole team, Leafs fans booed the players out of the ice.
It was the first time that the Canucks won by shutout in Toronto, but what was most disappointing happened after the game.
In the locker room, most players agreed that the team had to be better and that the level of effort wasn’t high enough.
Chris Tanev and Craig Berube were among the ones to voice their dissatisfaction about their performance:
“Not good enough. They outworked us, outcompeted us. That’s why they won.”
-Chris Tanev
“We need more life and energy.”
-Craig Berube
However, Marner didn’t agree with both of them.
Indeed, the assistant captain of the Leafs showed that he didn’t deserve to be among the team leaders by saying he liked the team’s level of effort, but that the other team capitalized on opportunities:
“I liked it. I thought we played well, I really did. The last couple of games, we’ve been giving up plays to teams that aren’t missing on them.”
Since then, many fans have been calling him out on X, saying he can’t take accountability and that he should be stripped of the “A” on his jersey, among other things:
Marner has been having a great season with the Leafs so far. While he struggled in the past few games, he still has 59 points in 44 games, tied with Tampa Bay Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov at the fourth rank in the NHL point leaders.
However, skills and leadership are two distinct aspects. We can say that he has one of these qualities, but is lacking the other one.
It’ll be interesting to see if he can bounce back in the Leafs next game, Tuesday, against the Dallas Stars.
