Mats Sundin among two special guests present for Wednesday's training camp sessions in Toronto

Two influential Maple Leafs legend accepted invites from Leafs GM Brad Treliving to attend Wednesday’s sessions at training camp.

As the Maple Leafs’ training camp progresses and the team begins to trim their roster down bit by bit for the 2024-25 season, two of the franchise’s greatest players of all-time, Mats Sundin and Wendel Clark, were seen observing the on-ice activities from above with Leafs GM Brad Treliving this morning.

Their attendance could be for various reasons. Perhaps management sought their insights on which players stand out, or maybe the two legends were simply curious about the team’s talent pool ahead of a very important 2024-25 campaign. Regardless of the reason, it’s exciting to see these two players together, given their decorated history with the organization.

Sundin, often regarded as the greatest Maple Leaf of all-time, leads the franchise with 987 points. Meanwhile, Clark is considered one of the most influential captains in team history as well, but for his play style and grit. Interestingly, these two players were traded for each other in 1994, and both were former first-round picks.

Intetestingly, next month, Sundin will release his first memoir, entitled “Home and Away”. The release date is set for October 22nd and the release will be accompanied by a book tour across Ontario.

Hopefully, newly appointed captain Auston Matthews can learn from these former leaders, as he too has the potential to become one of the greatest Maple Leafs players and captains in history based on his incredible goal scoring pace, which is as good or better than some of the greatest players in NHL history.
