The Chicago Blackhawks Head CoachLuke Richardson’s legacy in Chicago was short and sweet. He coached the Blackhawks for three seasons and was around for one full season of Connor Bedard’s development.

He would achieve an 8-16-2 record this season and fail to deliver an improved record, with an “improved” team.
It seemed as if Richardson was struggling, and would continue to mix and match lines with Blackhawks players. Resulting in disjointed play, and a lack of chemistry between combinations and pairs.
Last season, we saw Connor Bedard excel and win a Calder Trophy under Richardson but took a step back afterward, another possible reason for his firing.
Since then he’s made a statement about his time in Chicago, it was a statement of gratitude.
“Being part of an Original Six team and all the history it carries with it is as true privilege. I am so proud to have worked alongside some truly great men and women in this organization,” Richardson said.
While Richardson had a shorter leash than we suspected, he’s taken the firing with professionalism.
Maybe he hopes to get another shot at a head coaching gig in the NHL, or even a job as coaching staff elsewhere.
The Chicago Blackhawks are a desirable destination not only for players, but for NHL coaches, and staff as they’re one of the original six teams in the NHL.
It can be seen as a badge of honor, having the name on your resume and while Richardson didn’t deliver as he hoped, he gave it his best shot.
“I wish the team and their fans the best for the rest of the season.”
Richardson originally was part of Claude Julien’s coaching staff for another original-six squad with the Montreal Canadiens in 2022, before GM Kyle Davidson hired him.
He finishes his time in Chicago with a 57-118-15 record in Chicago.
No word on Richardson’s next steps.
