It appears that the Edmonton Oilers and Leon Draisaitl’s camp, are currently in negotiations.

Draisaitl’s Agent Jiri Poner has recently discussed with SI that he and the team are in no rush to sign a deal just yet.

But that doesn’t mean, Poner is backing down, as Poner believes the Oilers have been underpaying the team’s 2C, by a value of 30%. A whopping statistic, for a Center like Leon, who’d be considered a 1C anywhere else, that doesn’t have McDavid on the roster.

Poner himself believes that the deal will get done eventually, but if it’s not finished by August, Edmonton won’t want Draisaitl after all.

Draisaitl’s agent, Jiri Poner, told Eishockey News in Germany that the ball is in the Oilers’ court.

«There’s no rush yet, but either it happens quickly, i.e., by the end of August, or it doesn’t work out at all,» Poner said. «It will also become clear whether Edmonton really wants him or not.»

Draisaitl is one of the teams best players, as he’s put up 850 point in Edmonton (347 G, 503 A) in 719 games.

Draisaitl has been a 100-point player in the last five seasons and helped push the team to a cup in Edmonton, something of note and has been a consistent playoff performer as well.

In 74 playoff games with the Oilers, he has scored 108 points( 41 G, 61 A), and has won the Hart Trophy in 2020.

While Poner remains confident a deal is at hand, things could go south if Edmonton negotiates unfairly and doesn’t resolve the question at hand, which is Draisaitl’s value.
