LeBron James recently made headlines by opting out of his $51.4 million contract, signaling his readiness to take a pay cut to facilitate the re-signing of three key Lakers stars. Before re-signing with the Lakers, LeBron ensured that the team would add more veteran talent to boost their chances of contending for a title.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers star wasted no time in making moves during the free agency period by trying to bring Klay Thompson to Los Angeles.
“LeBron James, I’m told, called Klay Thompson right when free agency opened at 6:00 PM eastern,” Wojnarowski said.
The interest seems to be mutual. NBA insiders suggested that the Los Angeles native is intrigued by the prospect of teaming up with LeBron James on the Lakers. Back in 2019, Thompson had been linked to the Lakers before. But the Golden State Warriors disrupted it by offering a substantial five-year contract worth $190 million.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are not the only team eyeing Thompson. The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers are also potential destinations for the sharpshooting guard. However, the possibility of joining forces with LeBron in his hometown might be a strong lure for Thompson.

LeBron James had a long-held dream of sharing the NBA court with his son, Bronny James. The dream is now on the verge of becoming a reality after Bronny’s draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Although LeBron has yet to sign a contract extension with the Lakers, the 39-year-old star recently expressed his excitement about his son’s draft.
“With the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select… Bronny James. 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲. Just had a moment!” LeBron wrote on X.
Bronny James was selected with the No. 55 overall pick in the second round of the NBA Draft. It marks the first time an active father-and-son duo will play in the NBA. While much attention naturally centers on his famous last name, Bronny’s skills on the court facilitated the preparation for this significant milestone.
