Maple Leafs winger William Nylander has revealed what he wants to be remembered for in Toronto, and fans will love his answer.
Nylander sent social media abuzz on Thursday as photos from his shoot with ‘Sharp’ Magazine were revealed. Known for his unique style, Nylander was certainly the ideal candidate for the photoshoot, with the magazine even including a few pictures of the Maple Leafs forward with his dogs.
While the photos initially took social media by storm, it was the answers that the former first-round pick gave during his in-depth interview that really caught the attention of the fans. One response in particular really resonated with the Leafs’ faithful followers in Toronto.
Nylander was asked what he wanted to be remembered for during his career with the Leafs and his response was music to fans’ ears.
“When it’s all said and done, I just want to be the guy that was on the team that won the Cup for us. Forget about everything else. That would be the only thing that would matter. That’s why I signed here. I want to win a championship more than anything.”
To take it a step further, Nylander, who emphasized that Toronto is home for him and why he opted to sign his eight-year extension in January. Nylander also affirmed that he doesn’t want to win anywhere else.
“It’s the only place to do it.”
The 28-year-old Calgary-born Swede has shown no signs of slowing down since beginning his new 8-year deal, having notched 14 goals and 24 points in 22 games so far this season. That includes 11 points in the last 9 games as he has helped shoulder some of the burden caused by the absence of Auston Matthews.
Coming off of back-to-back 40-goal seasons, Nylander looks poised to hit or exceed that benchmark again this season as he and the Leafs look to go on a deep playoff run after another heartbreaking first-round exit to the Boston Bruins in 2023-24.
