Colorado Avalanche forward Miles Wood just had his status updated by head coach Jared Bednar and it does not look good.
According to head coach Jared Bednar, Wood will be out month-to-month with a an upper-body injury.
The 29-year-old seems to have been injured sometime during his last game on November 27th against the Vegas Golden Knights, although he still played a normal amount of ice time by his standards.
As there was not a clear reason for the injury, there has been speculation as to what caused it, with many fans pointing to an awkward and hard collision with the boards late in the game.
Wood has 2 goals and 3 points for the Avs in 16 games this season.
He has already missed time this year with other minor injuries but now appears to be heading to IR until at least the beginning of 2025.
Wood was not the only player we got an update on today. Jared Bednar also gave us updates on defensemen Josh Manson and Oliver Kylington, both of whom are on track to rejoin the team well before Wood.
With this update, the Avalanche’s depth will be tested yet again this season.
No team has suffered more injuries than Colorado so far this year and yet they have managed to tread water.
The team is 13-12-0 through 25 games this season, good enough for 4th place in the Central Division.
That being said, the Utah Hockey Club is right behind them with 24 points and they have a game in hand as well.
Assuming the Avalanche can get healthy at some point this season, they should be able to string together enough wins to get into the playoffs, but at this point many of us are wondering if it will be too little to late.
Be sure to stay tuned for more updates on Wood and the rest of the injured Avs as the team hopes to get back to Stanley Cup contender status.
We know they can do it if they can just get healthy, but is that too much to ask?
