Bella Murekatete, who made noise during the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup pre-qualifying tournament, impressed Klay Thompson, who jumped to social media to give the Rwandan player her flowers.
Thompson acknowledged Murekatete’s performance, where she registered 24 points, seven rebounds and one assist to lead Rwanda to a dominant 80-62 win versus Lebanon. Muraketete was deemed the best player of the game for her display.
“I see you @bella_murekatete. Keep leading! #couglegend,” he wrote in his Instagram story.

Murekatete is the first Rwandan player to compete in NCAA Division 1 basketball. Before going to Washington State University, she was a standout on Rwandan youth teams before leaving her country when she was 14.
Murekatete also became WSU’s all-time leader in blocks, rebounds, starts and games played. She was also fifth in points, third in made field goals and tied third in double-doubles.
Klay Thompson poses top golf question
In another Instagram story, Thompson asked his followers an intriguing topgolf question about bringing personal clubs in the field.
“Is it ok to bring your clubs to topgolf?,” he asked in a poll.
The four-time NBA champion’s followers overwhelmingly answered yes, citing that a player could just be trying to make their best attempt in the sport. Meanwhile, others said no, as it’s not much of a competitive sport.
Topgolf is a sport that combines traditional golf and entertainment while being more inclusive and appealing.
Klay Thompson embraces his new career chapter
After being a part of the Golden State Warriors for 13 years, Klay Thompson has decided to jump ship and be a Dallas Maverick next season. Being one of the most sought-after free agents in the offseason, Thompson was a prized acquisition for the Mavericks, who are coming off an NBA Finals appearance.
In his introductory speech with the Mavericks, Thompson embraced his new chapter as a player, as he’s set to play with Luka Doncic, and Kyrie Irving, who were one of his former NBA Finals rivals less than a decade ago.
“Whether you play basketball or work in the corporate world or whatever industry, sometimes change can spur greatness,” Thompson said.
“Coming here is just a fresh start and (me) feeling wanted again, I bring great value, and it just gets me excited to go work out after this press conference,” Thompson added. “There were times last year that were tough, where it wasn’t as joyful as it had been in the past. It’s nice to shed that and have a whole new fresh start.”
Thompson averaged 17.9 points per game last season but scored zero points on 10 shot attempts in his final game as a Warrior.
