One of the inventors of the term “wardrobe malfunction” just had one of his own.
Justin Timberlake — he of the infamous 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, in which he shocked audiences everywhere by accidentally exposing Janet Jackson’s bare breast — inadvertently showed his audience too much during one of his own concerts. It happened during his song “Mirrors” at a Thursday concert at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville when he wore a tight-fitting harness as he landed on stage and danced.

Much of the social media conversation focused on his assets, and not his songs.
“He hits the high notes and now we know why,” one commenter quipped.
Another, meanwhile, joked that the audience “saw Justin’s Timber.”
There were multiple references to Timberlake’s former girlfriend Britney Spears, as in “Britney … I get it girl.”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to reps for Timberlake.

Two decades ago, Timberlake used the term “wardrobe malfunction” just after the incident with Jackson in a statement to the now defunct MTV News: “I am sorry if anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance at the Super Bowl. It was not intentional and is regrettable.”
The artist behind songs such as “Rhythm Nation,” “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” and “That’s the Way Love Goes” also apologized for the incident that spawned an investigation by the Federal Communications Commission and a firestorm of commentary, with much of the blame laid at Jackson’s feet. In 2022, more than 18 years after it happened, the New York Times observed in a documentary it produced about the incident that Jackson’s career “never seemed to recover, while Timberlake’s soared.”
The NSYNC alum released the album Everything I Thought It Was in March and includes a collaboration with the reunited boy band.
It’s been a tough year for the Grammy winner. The Nashville concert was part of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which is scheduled to continue through July and end in Paris.
Timberlake infamously referenced the tour when he was arrested on June 18 in Sag Harbor, N.Y., on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. His initial reaction to the arrest was to say that the event was “going to ruin the tour,” which he then clarified was “the world tour,” an anonymous source told Page Six.
In September, the “Cry Me a River” crooner pleaded guilty to the lesser crime of driving while ability impaired. He agreed to perform community service, including an appearance in a public service announcement warning others to abstain from drinking and driving and pay a fine.
