The head coach of the Boston Bruins was not pleased with his team or the questions he faced after another loss.
The Boston Bruins suffered another loss on Saturday, their 9th of the regular season and 9th in just 16 games, and it was clear during the post game media availability that Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery was not very happy about it. Not only did Montgomery appear to be visibly frustrated while facing questions from the media, but the answers he gave also suggested that the coach may be a little frustrated with his team at this stage of the 2024-25 National Hockey League season.
“I don’t have an answer,” said the Bruins head coach.
When he was pressed on how he intended to find a solution to that problem, Montgomery again admitted that he was at a loss.
“Talk about it,” said Montgomery. “We’ll look at why and what we’re doing sports science-wise. Right now, I don’t have an answer for you.”
Likely as a result of seeing the frustration from the Bruins bench boss, reporters asked Montgomery if he felt his message was no longer getting through to the players. Montgomery brushed that notion aside quickly, giving a rather matter of fact answer in response.
“No. I don’t question that,” said Montgomery.
When he was asked why the message does not appear to be getting through despite his claims to the contrary, Montgomery suggested that it was the job of the journalists in attendance to figure that out.
“That’s up for you guys to figure that out and come up with a reason,” said Montgomery. “We just weren’t good enough. You guys can write what you guys think is the malaise on the team and what’s going on. We’re just not playing good enough. Thanks.”
Not a great sign for a bruins team with a record of 7-7-2 through the first 16 games of the season, especially not when you consider their abysmal -12 goal differential through those 16 game thus far.
