Boston Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman expressed his frustration following a blowout 8-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, marking a rough start to their five-game Western road trip.
Swayman allowed all eight goals, a personal worst in his career, and acknowledged that he could have stopped several of the shots that found the back of the net.
Jeremy Swayman emphasized the importance of staying sharp throughout the game and recognized that the Jets capitalized on their opportunities, saying postgame:
“Some of the goals that I let in, I know I can stop them and that’s something that I hold myself as a standard, and when you let those in, it’s not a great feeling. I want to make sure that that doesn’t happen again and staying sharp (2:38 mark).”
“And playing my game, I know I can stop those goals so that’s what I’m going to do and push forward.”
He added:
“You gotta stay sharp (for) 60 minutes, and (Winnipeg) punished us. (It’s) not acceptable and we have to move forward and luckily we have the group to do it.”
David Pastrnak was the lone scorer for the Bruins in the matchup. He finally scored a power-play goal after a 20-game drought, with his last coming on Oct. 26 against Toronto.
This loss to the Winnipeg Jets marked the end of the Bruins’ four-game winning streak. With a 15-12-3 record, the club sits third in the Atlantic Division with 33 points after 30 games.
Jeremy Swayman’s teammate and captain Brad Marchand calls for better effort from Bruins, beginning in practice
Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand shared his thoughts on the defeat to the Jets, saying the loss had been coming for them.
“This (loss) has been coming,” he said. “Our practices have been sloppy. Our execution has been off there and it bleeds into games. The way you practice is how you play. It starts there. We need to do a better job at being good at practice.”
Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele accumulated three points each for the Jets, who improved to a 21-9-0 record and 42 points, sitting second in the Central Division after 30 games.
Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins will look to regroup and bounce back from this disappointing performance as they continue their road trip to Seattle to face the Kraken on Thursday. The puck drops at 10 p.m. ET.
