Travis Kelce still has much to do before fully impressing Hollywood legends like George Clooney
From playing just one snap as a rookie to becoming one of the NFL’s most popular players, Travis Kelce has had quite the journey to superstardom.
Besides establishing himself as one of the greatest pass-catching tight ends in league history, he has become a global phenomenon thanks to his heavily covered relationship with Taylor Swift. He has also begun taking up movie and TV roles, from the aforementioned Grotesquerie to Happy Gilmore 2.
But according to an insider for the US edition of The Sun, Kelce has a long way to go before he can become a Hollywood legend in the same rarefied tier as the likes of George Clooney:
“Travis is a star because of his relationship with Taylor Swift, his championship football prowess, and the natural charisma he has shown on his podcast and elsewhere. But making the transition to a true Hollywood mainstay is a lot trickier.”
According to the insider, hosting a celebrity-themed spinoff of the hit game show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” on Amazon Prime may not help him achieve it, given the relative anonymity of the panel, which also includes former NFL players Ryan Fitzpatrick and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.
That poses a problem for him as he looks to build his brand independently of Swift’s:
“For all the hype around his potential Hollywood career, he still hasn’t taken off the training wheels… This really becomes a problem as Travis tries to win over a higher echelon of stars and get into juicy movie projects, which he’s been taking steps toward this whole year.”
The insider also says that Kelce’s hosting gig may have swayed TV network executives into thinking he may surpass Ryan Seacrest (of American Idol fame) and Ken Jennings (multiple-time Jeopardy! champion-turned-host) as “the smoothest in the game show business.”
