The Montreal Canadiens landed Patrik Laine this summer, but unfortunately he has taken a major loss on his condo that he now sold in Columbus.
When the Columbus Blue Jackets landed Patrik Laine from the Winnipeg Jets, many believed it would be the precursor to plenty of success to come for the Jackets, who have struggled in the NHL for a long, long time.
Unfortunately, his time in Columbus was filled with struggles on and off the ice, culminating in the 2023/24 campaign that saw him play just 18 games as a result of joining the NHLPA’s Player Assistance Program.
Then, in the summer, Laine was traded to the Montreal Canadiens, in a move that was expected to spark the Canadian franchise, but after a pre-season injury, he is yet to suit up for the Habs this season.
Now, as the veteran winger looks to move on from his time in Columbus, he has unfortunately taken one final loss, as he has reportedly sold his condo in downtown Columbus at a major loss.
According to reports, the condo sold for US $2.3 million, and while that’s certainly a solid return for most people, Laine purchased the property for $2.475 million when he arrived, meaning that he took a loss of around $175,000 on the deal.
For most people, that’s a hefty amount of money, and while it’s not nothing to Laine, who has earned around $50 million in his NHL career thus far, it’s certainly much easier to stomach when you can make over $6 million per season.
With this now in his rearview mirror, Laine will look to move on from Columbus when he finally returns to the ice for the Canadiens in the near future, and with such a bright future in Montreal, he could be a huge part of their push to finally get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
