In the ad, the former ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ host, who was embroiled in a toxic world environment scandal on the show, encourages her followers to ‘be kind to one another.’
Ellen DeGeneres has become the butt of people’s jokes on the internet after she promoted her Kind Science skincare line on Instagram. Upon catching wind of an ad for the brand, some social media users took issue with the former daytime TV show host’s line in the campaign.
Ellen was joined by her wife Portia De Rossi in the ad as they discussed aging. At one point in the video, the former host of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” encouraged her followers to “be kind to one another.”
The remarks didn’t sit well with Internet users as they brought up the alleged toxic work environment on her talk show. “But her staff said the opposite,” one user wrote in a comment. Another said, “The rumors have floated around forever how rude she is, how she treated people.”
“Yeah.. kind of a jerk,” someone else commented. Similarly, one other penned, “Yeah kind…of a nasty human being.”
Back in 2020, Ellen was embroiled in a scandal which stemmed from a tweet by comedian Kevin T. Porter. At the time, he asked people to share the “most insane stories [they’ve] heard about Ellen being mean” in a tweet, which garnered 2,600 replies.
Later in the same year, BuzzFeed News published an expose featuring one current and ten former employees of Ellen’s popular talk show who alleged racism, workplace bullying as well as sexual harassment happening behind the cameras. Ellen issued an apology with EPs Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman and Jonathan Norman being fired from the show. Despite that, the show eventually concluded in May 2022 after 19 seasons.
That aside, Ellen and Portia are hoping for a fresh start by leaving California and relocating to the U.K. Their move was partly prompted by the outcome of the U.S. election, which saw Donald Trump winning against Kamala Harris.
The couple chose the picturesque Cotswolds region of England for their perfect place to start their new life. Their new farmhouse boasts six bedrooms with David Beckham and Victoria Beckham (Victoria Adams), Kate Moss and Simon Cowell among their celebrity neighbors.
