The Maple Leafs have a fun new rivalry brewing off the ice between Matthew Knies and Auston Matthews over who the better tennis player actually is, and we may soon have our official answer.
This past week, Matthews and Knies both took to the mic in front of the media in Toronto to respond to a wide array of questions, but during their respective media sessions, we caught a glimpse into a heated off-ice rivalry between the two players over their recent tennis matches, which both players believe they won. Matthews was especially adamant that Knies had publicly lied about the outcome of their games. Popular Twitter/X user TicTacTOmar shared the funny video of their exchange on September 21st.
Knies, who draws back into the lineup tonight for Game 2 of the pre-season mini-series against the Ottawa Senators, addressed the media once again on Tuesday, confirming that he and Matthews may have come to an understanding about how they can prove who is really the king of the court.
Knies told the media on Tuesday that he and Matthews may wrangle up the “The Leaf: Blueprint” crew, who films the team’s YouTube series every year, and bring them to Muskoka to film a tennis matchup between the two linemates to prove once and for all who the better tennis player is.
I, for one, cannot wait to see this. The Leaf: Blueprint YouTube series provides an amazing behind the scenes look at the inner workings of the team and covers a wide range of events throughout the year. To see Matthews and Knies face off on the tennis court would certainly be a fun watch, even if you’re not particularly concerned with who actually wins.
The vibes surrounding this team in the locker room have reportedly always been good. Let’s just hope that it translate to a lot more on-ice success in 2024-25.
