Fans react to Oilers’ 6-0 defeat in home opener against Jets (Source: Imagn)
Fans reacted as the Edmonton Oilers had a tough home opener on Wednesday, losing 6-0 to the Winnipeg Jets. The defeat upset many fans who had hoped for a better season after a disappointing preseason.
The Oilers had high hopes as they played in front of a packed Rogers Place but struggled and played like they did in preseason. The team wanted to build on last year’s playoff run but fell short. Their defense struggled, while their goaltending was weak. Connor McDavid didn’t get a shot on net, frustrating fans.
Stuart Skinner, the Oilers goaltender, had a tough night. After an early turnover by Evan Bouchard, he faced a breakaway. He saved that shot, but things soon went downhill. He allowed four goals on the first 10 shots and was pulled midway through the second period. Some were from mistakes, but he should have saved the others.
Fans shared their disappointment on X (formerly Twitter).
“Are McDavid and Draisaitl still ‘taking it easy’? That was the excuse in preseason,” one fan asked.
“Not a single goal,” another noted.
“Pathetic,” a fan simply said.

“Garbage franchise,” a fan commented.
“Absolutely abysmal – no spark – no goaltending…,” one X user said.
“S**ks that we had to go through this again on opening night for the second straight year. But I’m not angry, just really disappointed. We clearly have things that we need to figure out as the season goes on. Goaltending and defence are once again the glaring issues. Not good,” a fan tweeted.
The Oilers next face the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.
Edmonton Oilers stars hope to lead the team to victory
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl want the Edmonton Oilers to bounce back from their tough Game 7 loss in the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers.
The Edmonton Oilers are the favorites to win this season, with BetMGM Sportsbook giving them 8-1 odds. Draisaitl wants to follow the Panthers’ path, who lost the Final and won the next year.
“There’s little learning lessons that they probably applied into the next season, and we’re looking to do the same,” Draisaitl said (via republicworld.com).
“Hopefully we can follow into their footsteps a little bit: lose one, and then the next year win it.”
In the offseason, the Edmonton Oilers kept key players and added veterans like Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner. However, they lost young players Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, raising concerns about depth. McDavid knows it’s tough to keep a strong team under the salary cap but remains hopeful.
