LeBron James’ son, Bronny James got drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th overall pick after initial rumors. As his draft made history as the first active NBA father-son duo, the former Lakers star Magic Johnson expressed his excitement in an X post.
“Congratulations to Bronny James on being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers! This is a historic moment because LeBron and Bronny are the first father-son duo to play in the NBA at the same time and on the same team. Watching Bronny suit up for the @Lakers during Summer League in Vegas will be must-see TV!” he wrote in X.
Meanwhile, Johnson got approval from an excited fanbase that is also waiting to see the iconic father-son duo on the court.
Though after Bronny’s draft, many analysts and fans targeted him, calling him a nepotism kid, many fans in Johnson’s post encouraged Bronny to prove the critics wrong.
LeBron James Could Play with Both Bronny James and Bryce James on the Lakers
LeBron James’ future with the Los Angeles Lakers is still uncertain. But, reportedly, the team is preparing to offer LeBron a three-year, $162 million contract extension. The projected offer would keep the superstar with the team through the 2026–27 season. This potential deal comes with the possibility of LeBron playing alongside his sons, Bronny and Bryce James.
The Lakers recently drafted Bronny James with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. This selection has already made history, as LeBron and Bronny are set to become the first active father-son duo in NBA history.
However, the story could get even more remarkable. Bryce James, LeBron’s younger son, is eligible to enter the NBA in 2026. If the Lakers sign LeBron to this extension, it would align perfectly with Bryce’s potential entry into the league.
