Hailie Jade Opens Up About Eminem’s “Somebody Save Me” Music Video
The video, accompanying the third single from “The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)” album, explores themes of addiction, regret, and the longing for lost time.
In the music video, Eminem is shown reflecting on the precious moments he missed with his children due to his struggles with addiction and demanding career. Home video footage of Hailie Jade, Alaina, Stevie, and Nate living through important moments of their lives fills the screen, bringing Eminem to tears as he seeks forgiveness.
In a new episode of her podcast, Hailie, to whom another Eminem’s song, “Temporary”, is addressed, revealed her emotional response to the video:
I watched it in its entirety, and I don’t think I can do it again. I definitely cried.
Hailie admits that both “Somebody Save Me” and “Temporary” bring her to tears every time she hears it, even accidentally.
Between that and “Temporary”… I can’t… I audibly sobbed, I think, for both songs, but especially ‘Temporary”. But I will say, watching the video back and listening to the songs, I feel like my parents did such a good job. Growing up, I didn’t realise how bad things were. But now, as an adult, in hindsight, it’s so scary to think about, and I think that’s why I get emotional so much — just thinking that this could have happened. Obviously, that’s the point of the song, but I will say that if you’ve ever lost an addict or a loved one, I feel for you. It’s a great video. It’s fun to see clips of us when we were younger like that, even “Mockingbird”. But I can’t even listen to that anymore without crying. The older I get, the less I can listen to any of these songs. It’s fun to see those clips, just not in that context.
Hailie’s heartfelt reaction offers a glimpse into the personal impact of Eminem’s music on those closest to him. Clearly, she felt loved and protected even in the darkest days of her father’s life, which is a testament to Marshall’s dedication to his family.
