Ed Sheeran, surprised fans when he swapped the stage for a shift at a LEGO store on Saturday.

The musical hit maker donned a bright yellow apron and blue LEGO branded t-shirt as he announced on his Instagram that he was off to be a ‘brick specialist’ for the day at the Mall of America and would finish by playing his top ten song, LEGO House.

Hundreds of unsuspecting fans were shocked when they saw the singer behind the counter happily sign LEGO boxes, hand out gifts and take pictures with anyone who asked.

One lady exclaimed: ‘Oh my God, my daughter is gonna freak’ while another Sheeranator stood frozen in shock at the sight of their musical hero on the shop floor.

Ed ended his ‘shift’ with an acoustic version of his hit song LEGO Hous, which he played to hundreds of adoring fans queuing outside.

He then teased fans by hinting at new music.

Posting a short video to Instagram, the multi-award-winning songwriter held up a new LEGO figurine to the camera which sported red hair and a t-shirt with the words ‘Autumn is Coming’ written across it.

Ed then reiterated the message by saying he would be giving out some of the mini figures at his upcoming gig and that ‘Autumn IS coming’.

He then changed his Instagram icon to a picture of an acorn and during his Minneapolis show, revealed that Subtract was his last album with his current major record label.

Ed, who is currently on tour, wore a top with the word ‘Autumn’ and the number ‘9’ emblazoned across the back.

Fans went wild at the thought of a new album coming out potentially in the Autumn, with many taking to Twitter to share their theories.

One fan penned: ‘Soooo ed’s been saying autumn is coming. He talked about being inspired by Enigma vVriations by Edward Elgar. Wore a jersey w autumn + 9 last week and one w variations + 29 this week. Autumn variations out september 29th?’

Detectives: After the LEGO figurine reveal and revealing a few titbits at a recent gig, fans went wild with speculation that Ed will be releasing a new album potentially in September

‘Subtract was the last album in his contract with his record label. The next one will be released by him -“it is coming when autumn begins” (9/23??) – The first song on the album is called Magical’

A third added: ‘Autumn is coming…soon. Tonight, Ed’s jersey read “Variations 29.” So…September 29?

‘At last night’s Subtract show, ed mentioned how the songs on “Autumn” reflects the lives of different people in his life. And now he has variations on his back.’

The potential release would be a follow-up to his recent album Subtract, which he released earlier this year.
