Although he didn’t want to, Ed Sheeran, the new shareholder of Ipswich Town, had to leave Portman Road at halftime during the home team’s opening match against Liverpool on August 17.
“I had to leave at halftime because I had a performance in Serbia right after,” the English singer-songwriter explained why he couldn’t stay for the entire Ipswich Town opening game.
The close timing of the performance and the match made it challenging for Ed Sheeran to manage his schedule. Nonetheless, Sheeran made an effort to attend the game to support “The Tractor Boys.” The 33-year-old singer arrived at Portman Road early to sign autographs and interact with Ipswich Town fans.
Additionally, the English singer expressed his pride in the team. “It’s amazing to see the team have the chance to play in such high-profile matches. To compete in this prestigious league, Ipswich Town has had to go through many years of hardship, and now the team has made the whole town proud,” Sheeran said.
Sheeran is a devoted fan of “The Tractor Boys” and has been a sponsor of the club’s men’s and women’s teams since 2021. On August 16, the talented singer-songwriter officially became one of the shareholders of Ipswich Town with a 1.4% stake. However, Ed Sheeran does not have a role in deciding the club’s structure or strategy.
Despite their efforts, Ipswich Town couldn’t pull off a surprise against Arne Slot’s squad, losing 0-2. On August 24, “The Tractor Boys” will face a tough away match against Man City at the Etihad Stadium.
