Ed Sheeran shares that he ‘cured’ his stuttering by reciting Eminem’s rap song and praises “he is my hero”

Ed Sheeran attributes a significant shift in his life to Eminem. In a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the 32-year-old vocalist of “Eyes Closed” talked candidly about how a vintage Em album had a profound influence on him. Sheeran revealed to the longstanding host that he had a stutter as a result of having surgery to remove a birthmark in his early years, but that the Marshall Mathers LP he received as a child helped him get over it.

‘Strivin’ to Be the Hardest White Boy,’ Says Jack Harlow Eminem, the rapper, in a new song
“I was receiving a variety of speech therapy sessions. My uncle got me The Marshall Mathers LP when I was nine years old. He told my dad, “This guy’s the next Bob Dylan,” just now. My father was just like, “Well, Edward’s going to go and listen to that,” without really getting it.

“And learning that record, and by rapping it back, to back, to back, to back, it cured my stutter,” Sheeran added about the 50-year-old Eminem. “And I stopped… talking like that.”Naturally, Sheeran has collaborated with the legendary rapper on a few occasions since then. Most recently, Sheeran performed “Stan” with him at Em’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in November. The two have previously collaborated on songs together, including Sheeran’s “Remember the Name” and Em’s “River” and “Those Kinda Nights.”
