Easton Cowan off to a hot start in the OHL

Easton Cowan did not make the Maple Leafs out of training camp, but appears to be making the most out of it with an excellent start to his 2024-25 season with the London Knights.

Before the start of training camp, the talk in Toronto was largely about Easton Cowan and where he would fit on the Leafs’ roster once he made the team. It was never a matter or if he made the team, but when. Well, as we found out this fall, it doesn’t take long for things to change, and a lackluster camp landed Cowan a one-way ticket back to the OHL.

Recently, Mitch Marner revealed what sort of advice that he gave to Cowan before the rookie was sent back to London. It appears as though that message has been received.

Rather than letting his emotions get the best of him, Cowan has instead chosen to put his best foot forward and taking his development to the next level, starting with putting together a strong start to his 2024-25 campaign with the London Knights.

Cowan has played in 3 games for the Knights thus far, and has produced 2 goals and 2 assists, including a 2-assist effort last night against the Barrie Colts.

The Mount Brydges, Ontario native will be hard-pressed to one-up himself from his performance in 2023-24, but he appears to he up to the task. Last season, Cowan produced 96 points and was named both OHL regular season and playoff MVP.

While it is slightly disappointing that Cowan did not appear ready to make the jump to the NHL this season, he is certainly not far off, and another massive year in the OHL will be a big step forward in further preparing him to make the jump next season.
