Leafs’ Matthew Knies Sends Juraj Slafkovsky to the Shadow Realm With Gnarly, Clean Hit

Matthew Knies steam rolls Juraj Slafkovsky in Leafs' win

When the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens come together on Hockey Night in Canada, it’s always fireworks. Last night was no different.

The Maple Leafs extended their winning streak to 3 games with the win, but Matthew Knies put the exclamation point on the victory with a sensational check along the wall with his team already up 3 goals in the early stages of the 3rd period.

Knies has really thrived under new Leafs coach Craig Berube this season, not only with his offensive production, but with his physical play and willingness to go to the dirty areas, creating havoc along the boards and in front of the net.

The Arizona product is a pending restricted free agent, but even with the fan base’s desire for the team to get an extension done, it appears as though talks are more likely to occur in the summer.

Multiple contract comparables for Knies have been brought up, but the most recent was from TSN’s Craig Button, who believes that the Matt Boldy deal is the perfect comparable for Knies. If he keeps up the way he’s going, he just may land a similar deal.
