The Detroit Red Wings are in a slump after losing four straight games following their 2-1 defeat to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. The loss dropped the Red Wings’ record to 10-12-4 on the season.
After the game, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin expressed his frustration with the team’s poor recent performances.
“The mindset in our room is we got to start getting two points, we got to start looking to get two and winning hockey games and getting on a roll here. I don’t think there’s, we’ve been in this position for many years, I don’t think there’s anyone coming in to save the day,” Larkin said.
Larkin said that the players are the ones can improve the situation and cannot expect to get help from outside the locker room. He emphasized that it’s time to start playing serious hockey, aiming for wins and not just settling for overtime losses or single points; they need to aim for two points.
Alex DeBrincat scored the lone goal for Detroit. For Ottawa, Josh Norris scored two goals in the win. Ville Husso made 30 saves in the loss. Linus Ullmark stopped 19 shots.
Their recent skid has dropped the Red Wings near the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings.
Derek Lalonde comments after the Detroit Red Wings’ 2-1 loss to the Senators
Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde expressed disappointment in the loss but remains positive about his team’s performance.
“This is a game you hope to take at least a point of, unfortunately,we didn’t in the end.” Lalonde said after game. “I thought our guys handled it very well and again, we had some looks, we had our chances, very unfortunate how it ended in the end.”
When asked about the Red Wings losing four straight games and how he plans to maintain the team’s confidence, Lalonde responded:
“Well, not feel sorry for ourselves. We played just fine of late. We’ve been gobbling up some points. It’s just (about) finding a way to get these over the finish line.”
Despite their recent losing skid, Lalonde seemed upbeat about his team’s performances and determined to return to the win column. The Detroit Red Wings next face the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.
