We have almost 40-year-old players in the NBA who show no sign of slowing down. And we also have Giannis Antetokounmpo planning his retirement at the age of 30. It might sound absurd, but yes, the Milwaukee Bucks superstar who is at the high of his NBA career is manifesting his post-basketball time.
The Bucks have made a great comeback in the 2024-25 season, especially after their win in the NBA Emirates Cup against the OKC. Giannis has been playing at an incredible level, showing why he deserves MVP talks. But even with all this success, Giannis is already looking to the future. He recently shared that he wants to become a head coach once he retires from playing, which gives fans something to think about.
“Afterward, when I retire, I want to be a head coach. A lot of people don’t know that about me, but I want to be a head coach. I really want to be,” Antetokounmpo said.

The Greek Freak has handsomely performed at an MVP-caliber season. He is averaging 32.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, and six assists. But if you look back, his experience coaching during the 2023 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game allowed him to explore this newfound passion.
“It’s kind of hard because you have no control [of the game]. And, I know the game of basketball, I know how to play the game of basketball, so it’s hard,” he added.
However, this should also not mean that Gannis wants to retire and take a break. The two-time NBA MVP knows what goes on behind the scenes when you have a team to coach.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Is Just Behind LeBron James And Michael Jordan
Giannis has been on a roll lately, helping the Milwaukee Bucks turn their season around after a rough start. They went from 2-8 to sitting comfortably at 15-12, and a lot of that success can be credited to Giannis himself. He’s been putting up incredible numbers, averaging 32.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, and six assists per game.
Recently, he also added the 2024 NBA Cup MVP award to his collection after a strong performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He racked up 26 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, showing just how valuable he is to the team. He’s quickly credited his All-Star teammate Damian Lillard for their teamwork in winning that title.

What’s particularly impressive is that Antetokounmpo is now just one award away from tying basketball legends Michael Jordan and LeBron James. Bron and MJ both have nine trophies to their names. With his recent wins, Giannis now has eight awards, including an NBA Championship, two regular season MVPs, and a Defensive Player of the Year title.
As he continues to play at this high level, it would be exciting to see how many more accolades he can earn. With several years left in his career, there’s a good chance we could witness Giannis become one of the most celebrated players in NBA history.
