This Metropolitan Division club really wants to land one of the Bruins’ top stars.

Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark is the Original Six club’s top trade candidate heading into the 2024 NHL Offseason. With Jeremy Swayman stealing the crease during the playoffs and Ullmark entering the final season of his deal, the Bruins are in a clear position to move on from the latter and use his value to improve their roster elsewhere.
The Bruins also, of course, came close to moving Ullmark at the deadline, but the 2023 Vezina Trophy winner blocked the trade because the rumored club was on his no-trade list.
There is no question that Ullmark is a very valuable asset this summer. The free-agent goalie market is quite weak this year, so teams looking for a star between the pipes will need to browse the trade market. Teams like the New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers, and Ottawa Senators are a few teams who have been named potential suitors for Ullmark because of it.
Yet, when it comes to the Devils, we now have confirmation that they really like Ullmark. According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, Ullmark is one of two goalies at the top of the Devils’ wishlist. The other goalie that the Devils are heavily interested in is Calgary Flames netminder Jacob Markstrom.
Here’s what LeBrun said on the matter: “League sources said [Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald] continues to show interest in Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames, whom he tried hard to acquire before the March 8 trade deadline, as well as Linus Ullmark from the Boston Bruins. There are other possibilities, too, but those two names would top New Jersey’s list.”

It makes sense that the Devils are very interested in Ullmark. They took a big step in the wrong direction in 2023-24, and the main reason why was their poor goaltending. Bringing in Ullmark would improve things on that front and make the Devils a much more significant threat in the Eastern Conference.
The Devils have pieces that could intrigue the Bruins, including this year’s 10th overall pick and Dawson Mercer.
