Brenda Edwards and Ed Sheeran paid tribute to her son Jamal Edwards on Saturday – what would have been his 34th birthday.

Jamal died in February 2022 at age of 31 from cardiac arrest, brought on from cocaine and alcohol.

On Saturday, Loose Women panellist Brenda, 55, remembered DJ and music entrepreneur Jamal in a heartfelt Instagram post.

She shared a video of Jamal, featuring photos from throughout his exciting life, and wrote with it: ’34 years ago today you brought so much joy and sunshine into my life.

‘I know Jamal is celebrating his birthday today up above and you can guarantee I will be doing the same.’

Meanwhile, Ed, 33, whose success Jamal was instrumental in, wrote on his Instagram Story: ‘Happy birthday my brother, miss you every day x’.

He also reshared Brenda’s tribute to his Story with a heart emoji.

Also paying tribute was Chelsea football club whom Jamal supported so passionately. They revealed their Foundation is making their biggest-ever donation to the trust set up in his honour – The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust.

In a joint post with the Trust, Chelsea wrote: ‘Today we celebrate the the birthday of the late, great, Jamal Edwards MBE.

‘Chelsea Foundation will donate £1 million to the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust, the largest grant ever given by our Foundation.

‘This 5-year partnership will continue Jamal’s vision of unlocking purpose in young people through Self Belief.’

Brenda’s Loose Women co-stars also sent their well wishes.

Judi Love wrote: ‘sending you so much love sweetie’, while Denise Welch posted blue heart emojis in tribute to Jamal’s favourite colour.

Smiling for some photos inside the London venue, Brenda was joined by a host of guest, including her co-star Linda Robson.

In 2023, Brenda broke down in tears as she emotionally reflected on being with her son Jamal when he died.

She tearfully described the moment her music producer son died at the age of 31 as ‘gut-wrenching’.

Jamal gained fame from setting up new music platform SB.TV which helped to launch Ed’s career.

Brenda opened up about his devastating death and her struggles with grief on Ashley Cain’s MTV show Faces, emotionally sharing that she was with her son when he died.

She spoke about the news of Jamal’s death being shared online just hours after his death, admitting she will never get over the ‘anger’ she felt at the announcement being taken away from her.

Speaking on the episode she said: ‘I was with Jamal when he passed, me and his sister and I can say he was so peaceful but it was a gut-wrenching moment for me.’

The former X Factor star went on to speak about the news of Jamal’s death being circulated on social media before she was able to put out an announcement.

Brenda admitted she was ‘very angry’ after seeing the news had broken on social media and said she doesn’t think she will ever come to terms with the ‘disrespect’.

She continued: ‘The one thing I didn’t like was the announcement of him passing was taken away from me. I think people should have just had that respect for him and for me.

‘That’s nobody else’s business, when I want to say whatever I want to say, then I should be able and I have the right to be announcing that. But that was taken out of my hands.

‘I was angry, very angry. It’s a shame because it took away from that moment of my grief to “who did that?”‘ It wasn’t even 24 hours. This was on the same night, it’s like 5-6 hours afterwards.

‘I can’t process this because social media is going crazy. That was a bit of disrespect I don’t think I’ll ever come to terms with.’
