Blackhawks fans may have a chance to see Drew Commesso starting this weekend as he has been called up from the Hartford Wolfpack.

It was revealed by Blackhawks pundit Charlie Roumeliotis that Arvid Soderblom is ill and Commesso will draw in to take his place. The 22-year-old goaltender was drafted by the Blackhawks in the 2020 entry draft, second round 46th overall.

Commesso played 38 games for the Rockford Icehogs last season and had a goal against of 2.65 and a save percentage of .906 with two shutouts. He also held a record of 18-16-4 and helped the team get into the playoffs. It’s safe to say the Blackhawks need another face behind Petr Mrazek as the team continues to seek for consistency and wins.

Some teams strike gold by calling up one of their American Hockey League goalies such as the Blackhawks rival St Louis Blues as they had goaltenders out in 2019 and managed to bring in Jordan Binnington.

It’s safe to say not to compare these two goaltenders as the same but in a season where the Blackhawks are attempting to move the needle and be in the conversation of either a bubble team or even a potential playoff team, they will need to have another goaltender that can help and Commesso could be that person.

The Blackhawks will begin a five-game road trip where they will take on the Dallas Stars. The game will take place on October 26th game time will be 8:00 PM eastern.
