Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a lopsided 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night. During the game, Leafs coach Craig Berube was visibly upset after the Blues had scored their third goal of the night, yelling at the Maple Leafs bench.

The goal in question came at 7:58 of the second period, scored by Alexandre Texier to put the Blues up 3-1. It came after Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko had forced a turnover from Matthews in the Toronto zone.

Berube was clearly frustrated with the lack of effort by the Leafs on the play, making his feelings known by shouting at their bench. When asked about the incident after the game, Matthews didn’t seem too bothered by Berube’s reaction.

“It’s hockey; you get yelled at sometimes. …” Matthews said (as per TSN Mark Masters). “It obviously has an impact. We all respect him, his presence, and everything he brings on the bench. It’s not something you take personal.”

Auston Matthews acknowledged that the Leafs didn’t play up to their potential in the lopsided loss to the Blues.
